I am beginning to get a few requests to shoot pictures for people other than family.
This presents a couple problems.
First, I need to settle on a name. "Rader Photography" seems so bland and unimaginative.
Second, I need some kind of price structure. How much should I charge for my services. I need to at least break even.
Thirdly, do I need a website where people can view their pictures and place orders?
Your suggestions will be appreciated.

1. i ended up using my name just because i knew it wasn't taken. and also because i didn't want to register as a business until i was sure i was a business, and people can just write checks to my name directly without being confused. i had gone with "iCandy designs" but then i discovered another icandy here in town. but i'll think on this. (although jenny told me her suggestion and i think that's hilarious.)
2. price is hard. i did a ton of research, and settled on something a tad less than everyone else charges just so i could get more business at first. then if people are happy with your work (and looking at yours they definitely will be) they won't mind if your prices go up in a year or two. you can look at my prices if you want www.candyailstock.com. i'm not sure they're great but it's what i finally settled on.
3. i think you do. i found jalbum.net, where you download their free software and use it on your desktop to make albums. it's amazing and fast and i love it. you can even password protect the individual galleries. the only problem is you have a 30MB max, but if you set a time limit on ordering (ex: your gallery will be up for 3 weeks) then it should be fine. i save all my pics down to 4 x 6 at 120 dpi and they look great on screen.
that might have been more info than you wanted, but there's my two cents!
Candy,
Thanks for your suggestions. It looks like "Rader Photography" may be the name that sticks. I read an article on the net that rated Photography studios. Eight of the top ten simply used their name as their business name.
Thanks also for pointing me to your website. Your prices are very close to what I had in mind.
I have more questions. Next time we meet maybe we can "talk shop".
