Christmas Present

___

I guess it is officially time to brag on my Christmas Present. Santa brought me an Epson Stylus Pro 3800 Portrait printer. I decided on this printer after almost two years of research. The choice quickly came down to the Epson 3800 and the Epson 4880. Both printers are equal in print quality. The 3800 will take 4X6 paper and the 4880 will not. However, the 4880 will take roll paper whereas the 3800 will not. Since I print a lot of 4X6 prints I decided on the 3800. This printer weighs about 50 pounds and the 4880 weighs about 100 pounds. The 4880 also costs about $600 more than the 3800.

Now to the really good stuff. This printer has 9 ink cartridges each holding 80 ml of ink. That is a total 720 ml of ink. The printers that you buy at Wal-Mart will hold about 15 ml total of ink.
I can print lots of prints before replacing ink cartridges. I pray that they do not all run out of ink at the same time since replacing them at once would be $450.

This printer will print as large as a 17X22 inch print. The print quality is awesome, better than you will get at Sam's Wal-Mart, Walgreens or wherever you get your prints developed. This means that I can now control my prints from start to finish. I now have one of the best cameras on the market, decent lenses, a great printer, lights backdrops etc.... The only reason for not producing a great print is lack of talent and experience. I am working on both.

My website is coming together slowly. Again, I am working on a site that will give me total control over content without paying a fee or commission to a third party.

The thing that I am still struggling with is pricing. I need to move beyond the "breaking even" place to where I am actually making a profit.

How much would you pay for a 16X20 print? Photographers around here charge around $95. Twice that for canvas.
How about an 8X10? Would you pay $20.?
