Overly Cynical?

Please tell me that I am not being overly Cynical. I hear the outcry from people about undocumented workers coming to America and taking jobs away from people. However, I see more and more young Americans who are poorly qualified for even minimum wage jobs.

Recently while paying for my meal at Cracker Barrel, I asked the girl behind the counter (not the one in the picture) to add 20% to my bill for the waitress's tip. Without a hint of embarrassment she said "Sir, I have no idea how to do that. How much is 20%?" I said, "It is twice 10%." "But I do not know how much 10 % is" she replied. I said, "move the decimal point one place to the left." "Oh, no one ever told me how to do that," she said.

Yesterday I stopped by Staples to purchase a few items. When I approached the check out counter I noticed that the cashier was on the telephone. As I got closer I could overhear that it was clearly a personal call. She went through the whole process of checking me out without interrupting her conversation with her friend. If I had been the store manager she would have been fired immediately.

For some young people today who are graduating High School and entering college, w-0-r-k is a dirty word. I can almost feel the pain of employers who are trying to find qualified workers to fill minimum wage positions.
