Recapturing My Youth
Is it possible to recapture one's youth? I hung up my racing helmet in 1966 after two short seasons at the old Nashville race track. Over the years I have matured, settled down and take far less risks than I once did. Today, I cringe at the thought of some of the things I did when I was a teenager.
Yesterday, I took the EVOC (emergency vehicle operators course) training with the Police Dept. Part of that training included driving a police cruiser around the Nashville Superspeedway. Common sense told me to drive at a moderate speed and not try to be a show off. However, faint rumblings of my teenage years began to stir. How many people, my age, will ever get the opportunity to run a Police Car around the track of a Super Speedway?
All I can say is, for a minute or so I felt like a teenager again.
