Dad had six sisters, Sally, Jewell, Evelen, Francis, Lillian & Nora Lee. He had four brothers, Albert, Willie (Bill), Amos & Claudie. Claudie is the Uncle I never knew.Local Youth Drowns in Stone's River
Stone's River claimed its first victim of the summer yesterday afternoon when a 17-year old youth was drowned after he leaped from an overturned canoe near LaVergne.
Identified as Claudie Preston Rader of Murphy Road, Nashville, the youth was pronounced dead after a resuscitation squad had administered artificial respiration for two hours at the Phillips-Robinson emergency station on Murfreesboro Road where the youth was rushed after he was taken from the ater.
Witnesses said young Rader was i the cane with two companions, Grover Jackson, 16, of Apex street, and James Willard York, 16, of 907 North Fourteenth Street, when Rader leaped into the water as the craft began to tip over. His body did not return to the surface, they said.
Ben Rader, 24 of Rural Hill Road, a brother of the drowned youth, said Clay York and Ray York, both of Due West Lane, dived for the body which was recovered approximately ten minutes later. Another brother, Amos Rader, rushed the drowned youth to the emergency station where artificial respiration was begun by Douglas Cochran, Marvin H. Barnes and Judson Beasley of the Phillips-Robinson Company and Joe Keefe and H. B. Sheetz of the Nashville Fire Department.
A native of LaVergne, Rader was the son of Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Rader of LaVergne. He had been residing in Nashville since last February.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Arlene Brown Rader; his parents; four brothers, Alver, Willie Amos and Ben Rader; and four sisters. Mrs. Elizabeth Agee, Mrs. Lillian Wilson, Mrs J. colguit all of Nashville, and Miss Nora L. Rader of Lavergne.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 o'clock this afternoon at the home of WF. Rader, 107 Rose Street, Woodbine, with the Rev. H.H. Wise, assisted by the Rev. W. H. collier, officiating Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.(I do not know why the news article failed to mention Evelen & Francis when they listed the sisters.)
